What should I serve for New Year’s that will go with Shrimp Kebabs and stuffed mushrooms?
My husband and I like to have our own ‘party’ for New Year’s and I was thinking of making a variety of appetizers and finger foods we can have in front of the tv. Any suggestions would be welcome!

my husband loves the simplest cheese puffs in the world.
preheat oven to 375F.
take a package of pillsbury crescent rolls, place the rolled up sheet flat on a cutting board.
press together all the lines so it looks like one long sheet.
cover the pastry sheet generously with shredded cheddar and some parmesan.
roll up from the long end, jelly roll style, and cut the roll into 3/4″ rounds.
place on baking sheet and bake about 17 minutes or until golden and delicious.
easy as pie and tastes sooooo good. you can dip them in mustard, if you like, as well.
i just pop them in my mouth plain… 🙂

oysters yum
check my recipes out: http://doreenskitchen.com/Oysters.html
another good idea would be shrimp cocktail, unless you’d be shrimped out with the kebabs
there are in the frozen section at grocery stores some assorted appetizers that can easily be baked. they’re not bad either.
some bruschetta would be great too, and easy to make
french bread cut into 1 or 2 inch slices, lightly toasted in oven
topped with a small mixture of
chopped fresh basil (stems removed)
a bit of garlic clove diced
fresh tomato
drizzle of olive oil mixed with above and then on slice of bread put
thin slice of boccocini (mozzarella that is fresh; it looks like a ball)
top with basil tomato mix
HAPPY NEW YEAR

I’d like that with a mug of potato soup (I’m freezing today) and some of these Red Lobster Cheddar Bay biscuits. A fruit tray (pineapple, strawberries, and grapes sprinkled with coconut and maraschino cherries) might be nice too:
On its own, room temperature shortening does a poor job creating the light, airy texture you want from good biscuits, and it contributes little in the way of flavor. So, cold butter and a little garlic powder are added.
Ingredients:
2 ½ cups Bisquick baking mix
¾ cup cold whole milk
4 tablespoons cold butter (1/2 stick)
¼ teaspoon garlic powder
1 heaping cup grated cheddar cheese
Bush on Top:
2 tablespoons butter, melted
¼ teaspoon dried parsley flakes
½ teaspoon garlic powder
pinch salt
Directions:
1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
2. Combine Bisquick with cold butter in a medium bowl using a pastry cutter or a large fork. You don’t want to mix too thoroughly. There should be small chunks of butter in there that are about the size of peas. Add cheddar cheese, milk, and ¼ teaspoon garlic. Mix by hand until combined, but don’t over mix.
3. Drop approximately ¼-cup portions of the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet using an ice cream scoop.
4. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until the tops of the biscuits begin to turn light brown.
5. When you take the biscuits out of the oven, melt 2 tablespoons butter is a small bowl in your microwave. Stir in ½ teaspoon garlic powder and the dried parsley flakes. Use a brush to spread this garlic butter over the tops of all the biscuits. Use up all of the butter. Makes one dozen biscuits.
Now, I’ve got to admit that I’m not a fan of Bisquick or garlic powder. But this is an exception. These are just wonderful. I served them Friday at my family’s Christmas Buffet. They were a big hit. I made them half sized because I also served finger foods. That was a perfect way to go.
They are also nice because they don’t need any extra butter on the side.

Don’t forget Hot Wings. They’re easy. Get a pkg wings at store. Pre heat broiler. Rinse off the wings and tuck the tip under to form triangles. Place on broiler pan add salt & pepper to wings. Place under broiler 10-12min. Remove broiler pan, turn wings over, add salt & pepper, return to broiler 10-12min more. Remove and turn again. /broil 5min more. Remove & let cool. Make hot wing sauce. In med pan carefully begin to melt 1 cube butter (1/4lb). Whisk in Frank’s hot sauce to taste (1/4cup). Don’t allow sauce to break. Cut up wings discarding tips. Place wings in sauce and stir until coated. Serve hot.
You could also use b-b-q sauce, honey mustard, terriaki or what ever flavor you like.
Enjoy!
