More monotonous but a whole lot safer.
Road-running – For:- countryside, people, birds, animals, etc. Against:- pot holes, kerbs, gutters, traffic, weather.

I run a lot of miles, and I never run on a treadmill. For me its harder to run on a treadmill, probably cause I’m not used to it, but if you are used to it, its probably easier because there are no hills to run up

Running on the treadmill is easier than on the road because you are not propelling yourself forward. I find I run further on the treadmill than on the road. I prefer the road though, there is so much to see, and hear on the road, and I find it’s a better overall workout. I really only use the treadmill in the winter when it’s too cold or on the very very hot days (35-40 degrees) of summer.

It is easier, you don’t have to account for wind or other weather conditions, no hills and the treadmill is a much more giving surface. How much easier is next to impossible to say and probably different for everyone.

Personally i can run much further and faster on the road. Never worked out why though.

Treadmill is much easier. No hills, wind, propelling yourself forward, deep breathing, etc. However a treadmill is based off of math calculations. For example, if you ran 5 kilometers on a treadmill it may read 30 minutes. But if you run on a road, you might get 25 minutes or less because a treadmill doesn’t measure your stride and foot placement.
Overall, if you are looking for a real workout to challenge yourself, go run outside!
