How do I go from a wireless network with a desktop pc host to just my laptop?
I have an older desktop pc with a wireless router and dsl modem setup. I need to remove my pc from the network to repair it…I use my laptop all the time anyway. Can I just remove the pc and the existing connection with the laptop and router will be fine? If not, what do I need to plug in and where, and in what order?

you should be fine just taking out your computer. just make sure the cable goes into the modem then to the router.

Yes, both computers are independent of each other and nothing will be affected when you remove the desktop. You will not be able to access any files you have stored on the desktop from the laptop though.
