How do I harvest sea salt ?

We can get sea salt by evaporating seawater. This kind of salt comes in bigger crystals that make it coarser than regular table salt. Originally, sea salt came from the waters of Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean near Brittany coast and the North Sea. We also do have sea salt in the country, specifically in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and Maine. If you want to know if it is okay to and how to harvest sea salt here is how.

Before harvesting sea salt, prepare a shallow pan or a few large trays. If you do not have one, purchase from a pet shop or department store. Go to a nearby slat field, ocean or salt marsh in the places said above. Learn when is the best time o harvest sea salt. Remember that the higher the temperature the faster seawater evaporate, this means more sea salt.

Get some seawater and put it in your pans or trays. Next, place your trays in a location where they will get direct exposure to sunlight. The wind along with the sunlight will make the seawater evaporate turning it to sea salt. If you want to make sea slat faster, you can use a kiln if you have access. Remember to use a clay tray if you want to make sea salt using a kiln. Now, gather all your sea salt from the tray and put it in a jar or a shaker and it is ready to use. Make sure to keep your sea seal from humidity, which can cause clump build-ups in your sea salt.

Sea salt is perfectly safe, some people actually prefer sea salt than the regular table salt or it has natural flavors. If you have an access to all of the things and the location where you can produce sea salt, why not make your own, sea salt actually cost more than table salt. sea salt is not just to add flavor to your everyday meal, but it is also a great alternative for bath salts and will make your skin softer.
