How long does it take to learn rhythm guitar?

I just bought an acoustic guitar, and I am wondering, if I practice for 30-45 minutes a day, how long it will take roughly before I can actually play songs vs my currently taking 20 seconds to get my fingers in the C-chord position, then another 20 to move to A.

I know it depends on the person’s musical ability and natural talent and stuff, I am just curious to see how long it took other people who have learned guitar.

Thanks!

From the moment you first pick up the guitar until you become a major rock star is usually between one and 25 years.

if you practice like that every day, then it could be as soon as a month or two before you can pick out a song, or it could be longer. For me, after a couple weeks I started learning my first song, and I had it down after about three weeks since I pick up the guitar.

Keep at it. It will become second nature so you don’t have to think about it. I think it took me about 2 months to get my first 2 chords (C and Em) to the point where I could just do it.
From there it’s an eternity to master.

How long is a piece of string? You can get good enough to play any Oasis song ever recorded in about six months if you practise chord transitions (switching from one to another) – if you play your whole life, you still might not get close to good enough to play rhythm like some players. It’s a mixture of talent and practice.

Keep playing your c to a and back again – that’s the first step. Find a song with three or four simple chords and practise until it’s smooth – you’ll get there in no time, and there’s a sudden moment for most people after a few months, where they go from taking a long time to change chords to being able to switch between any two positions instinctively.

    Good luck!
