What are common foods that French people eat?
I’m doing a project on France and I need to know more about the common food that they eat. So far, I have found escargo, lamb, caviar, duck, bread, wine, cheese, etc. Also, if you know any desserts and drinks besides wine, It would be of SOOOOO much help! Thanks in advance.

Don’t forget the pork and chicken. French cooking has some things like escargot and tripe that other cultures may not normally have common- this is a result of a history of wars in a otherwise advanced culture that wanted to survive. Like some Chinese cooking – the almost inedible survival food is prepared in such a manner that the upper and middle class hungry diners can keep it down and have a not unpleasant dining experience. Cow guts chopped and seasoned, covered with a bit of sauce will be eaten if nothing else is available. Braised Horse meat is a good dish to serve after Calvary charge at a musket equipped troopers square- after war the troopers who had developed a taste for it continued butchering excess and race loser horses. Goat meat is another common meat- the French goat dairies provide milk and good cheese on rough browse pastures- the unwanted males are a good source of lean meat. A goat can provide enough meat for a family to eat good for a week and not spoil in summer- a cow would have to be shared out quick in days before refrigeration or pickled. The smoked sausages are typical of old country fare that is still popular in cities. Consider the lack of large home refrigerators and you can see the preference for small sized critters-fresh chicken, rabbit, water fowl alternating with dried and preserved meats, cheeses, seasonal vegetables.

My dad is from France and we ate alot of crepes. The french people love pastries. When we would go to France for vacation, we would eat pasteries. They also eat eel, mussells, horse meat( no kidding ). After dinner, they sometimes drink cognac( a very strong liquor). We went to the open market and bought the foods.
