How to speed up a slow running computer?
I have a 10 year old HP Pavilion and its running really slow. After I turn it on it takes atleast 15 minutes for everything to load. It constantly freezes everytime we click on something. It doesn’t have a virus because we have used so many different anti-virus scanners. Its also been defraged and uninstalled unwanted programs and still nothing.
What are some “free-do it yourself” ways to speed up my computer and free up a great amount of space?

if your computer is 10 years old you should buy a new one.
Ways to speed up your computer are by adding more ram or cleaning your registry.

Having more than one anti virus program runing at the same time will slow your computer down quite a bit and cause all sorts of conflicts, errors, etc…
Run only ONE anti virus program! I HIGHLY recommend AVAST. It’s free and I have used it for over 8 years and NOTHING has ever gotten past it.
Also, check your Startup menu and remove any program that you really don’t need to run when you turn your computer on. Programs that autoload on startup can eat up your memory thus slowing down your computer.
The cheapest and fastest way to speed up any computer is to add more memory. THere is no such thing as too much memory.
Installing a updated cideo card will also breath like new life in a computer.

In most cases, if your PC is freezing up, or running slow, it’s due to errors in your registry. Your PC’s system registry holds all kinds of info about your computer. Over time the invalid entries in your registry begin to affect your PC’s performance, causing it to freeze up or run much slower. PC owners should have there registry scanned every few months for maximum performance. You can download a registry cleaner to fix the problem! I should like to commend Registry Easy to you !http://make-computer-run-smoothly.com

Everything you need (virus scanners)
http://ninite.com/
I had a similar problem, some causes included
having two virus scanners such as norton and AVG (they do not do well together) = uninstalled and got avast
having lime wire = uninstalled
having too many things =moved it into a portable hard drive
you should also get it looked at by a professional
Don’t forget to do disk clean up and disk defrag

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!
