Veggies like mushrooms, cauliflower, broccoli (in a batter) are good. You can even dip a candy bar (like Snickers) or cookies (Oreos) in a sweet pancake-like batter and deep fry them. Messy but good!

I personally haven’t ever tried it, but it looks quite interesting and I would suppose that it is good. I was watching the Food Network the other evening and they were talking about strange restaurants. There is actually one that deep fries everything! For dessert they deep fry a twinkie. All the people on the show, swore by that dessert.

    Old Fashioned Onion Rings —

“This is an actual recipe from a former employee of a popular drive-in restaurant. Crispy coated onion rings like the pro’s make!”

    INGREDIENTS
1 large onion, cut into 1/4 inch slices
    1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 egg
1 cup milk, or as needed
    3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
    seasoned salt to taste
1 quart oil for frying, or as needed

    DIRECTIONS
    Heat the oil in a deep-fryer to 365 degrees F (185 degrees C).
Separate the onion slices into rings, and set aside. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Dip the onion slices into the flour mixture until they are all coated; set aside. Whisk the egg and milk into the flour mixture using a fork. Dip the floured rings into the batter to coat, then place on a wire rack to drain until the batter stops dripping. The wire rack may be placed over a sheet of aluminum foil for easier clean up. Spread the bread crumbs out on a plate or shallow dish. Place rings one at a time into the crumbs, and scoop the crumbs up over the ring to coat. Give it a hard tap as you remove it from the crumbs. The coating should cling very well. Repeat with remaining rings.
Deep fry the rings a few at a time for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove to paper towels to drain. Season with seasoning salt, and serve.

    Green Bean Fries —

“These are tasty alternatives to both regular french fries and also a way to get in your veggies! I make them by the truckload and freeze them. My husband hates green beans but gobbles these up! Serve with Ranch dressing or another favorite dipping sauce.”

    INGREDIENTS
    oil for frying
1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
    1/2 cup water
    1 egg
    1/2 cup milk
    2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
    1 teaspoon chili powder
    1 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 teaspoon onion powder
    1 cup all-purpose flour

    DIRECTIONS
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or electric skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
Combine the green beans and water in a saucepan. Cover and bring to a boil. Cook until the beans are bright green, about 4 minutes. Drain and transfer to a bowl. Cover with cold water and set aside.
In one bowl, whisk the egg and milk together. In a separate bowl, mix together the bread crumbs, chili powder, garlic powder, and onion powder. Drain the green beans and toss with flour to coat, shaking off the excess. Dip the beans into the egg mixture and then into the bread crumbs, coating thoroughly.
Fry beans in batches so they are not touching. Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 2 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
