Can I use regular food coloring instead of paste food coloring?
I’m planing on making these adorable santa cookies but the recipe calls for paste food coloring and all I have is the “regular kind”
Like the liquid stuff.
Can I use that instead of paste food coloring?

No!! do not use regular liquid food coloring.. only way to do that is to use the liquid food coloring in some powdered sugar.. that will work a little.. the liquid food coloring will run and bleed all over everything the whole cookie and look awful.. Try coloring the dough with the liquid food coloring and then placing the cut pieces on the Santa.. It probably will bleed some but not to bad.. That’s why the paste it is more stable.. good luck.. The color won’t be as strong, and liquid stuff may make whatever (I’m not sure if you are adding the coloring to the cookie or the icing) you are making softer/looser.

Yes you can but it will make your mixture thinner than the paste. In some things this does not matter.

If depends on if you are adding the coloring to the dough or the frosting. If the dough is it sugar cookie dough? I once made planet earth cookies by coloring sugar cookie dough with the regular liquid food coloring and they turned out nice. Not sure what you are doing exactly but good luck!

Emily,
If you are coloring the cookie dough, you can substitute some of the food coloring for some of the liquid used in the recipe without changing the recipe.
If you are coloring the frosting, use the liquid food coloring like you would use to thin the frosting/icing then add milk or enough liquid to thin to the desired consistency.
Without your recipe I cant help you more or give you other suggestions. pm me the recipe and I’ll see if I can help you further.

I don’t believe so, it won’t work that great. I suggest using paste food coloring.
