How to lose weight in the legs and hips?

I am 5’9 and at 182 pounds. I am trying to lose weight, mainly in the leg and hip area. I do squats, running, cycling, all that good stuff targeted for that area. I have lost a total of 18 pounds so far, but my hips are still big. I do have hypothyroidism but it is under control now. I only eat 1000 calories a day, any help would be great!

Spot reducing (losing weight in one specific area) is impossible. Keep doing what you’re doing now and you’ll see results eventually.

Fat burns evenly throughout. If you do any exercise, then it will burn fat throughout your body. You do not need to target your legs or hips when working out. However, doing interval sprints are good for toning the muscles in your hips as well as burning fat.

So once you burn some fat, the toned muscle helps the legs to look better. I recommend interval sprints (as mentioned above) as well as weight lifting. Don’t worry, you won’t bulk up unless you go crazy and do steroids.

Weight lifting burns fat during your workout and then burns more calories later as your body works to recover the muscle.

Sometimes, you may just have larger hips because of genetics. In that case, learn to love what you have. Some people wish they could have more curvy legs. Some are stuck with bony-ness.

You seem on the right track, just keep it up!

Spot reducing is no possible. Your body adds and removes fat is specific locations. Everyone is different. Just lose weight and eventually it will come off the right places.
