External speakers stopped working properly on pc sound is distorted they work fine on my laptop. How do I fix?
My pc has no internal speaker. They powered set I have worked fine for many years. They sound like the speaker cones are torn. They sound great in my laptop. What do I do to fix it? I have downloaded drivers from HP/Compaq. There where no drivers on the Altec Lansing site. Don’t know what else to do. Thanks in advance.

Hmm. This is tough, because the first thing I would tell is to try to reinstall your sound drivers. If you’ve already done that and it’s still happening, then there’s a good chance the sound card (or sound module if it’s integrated) is actually bad and needs to be replaced. If it’s a standalone sound card, you’ll need to replace it. If it’s integrated, you’ll need to either replace the entire motherboard, or get a standalone sound card which will override the integrated sound.

uninstall and reinstall sound card of your desktop pc. now, set the master and wave volume to 50% – 60% only. dont set the bass level to highest. better not use any environment effect

Should not the speaker of the problem. May sound drivers were damaged, you need to try to re-install the sound card driver.
