How long could I keep a car plate for the longest before putting it onto a car?
Hello, my daughter is turning 17 in the summer next year and she has just found a car plate that she would like to buy and put on her car next year: since her 17th birthday is around beginning of September, if i buy the plate now could i keep the plate till around then? (i am planning to buy her a car in around july next year)
Thank you very much guys!

What is the retention scheme?
If you would like to buy a vehicle number but have not yet purchased the vehicle to display the registration mark, you may retain the registration number on what is known as a ‘Retention Certificate’.
The Retention Certificate enables you to retain the mark for up to twelve months prior to being assigned and costs only £25.00, incidentally you must pre-pay the £80.00 transfer fee in advance when retaining a mark. There are strict rules governing the use of retention certificates of which you must make yourself fully aware prior to using the service.

you could always buy the car now register the plate to the car, then put a SORN on the car until she can use it, if you have somewhere to keep it off the road
