Call it an “open house” and set the time span for about 4 hours total. Depending on the day and your desired time, you can decide on different kinds of foods. Here are some helpful hints:
1. Yes, you’re supposed to send invitations. You can do this over the internet or actually purchase some and mail them out. Allow at least 2 weeks before your party.
2. An open house means that folks can come and go any time during the 4 hour block you set aside, so plan on having food for the duration.
3. Most guests will want to bring something, so you need to be prepared for plants, bottles of wine etc. unless you indicate that you don’t want gifts.
4. If you have your party during the early part of the day, such as 11 – 3 consider a brunch menu. This would include a nice fruit platter, croissants and muffins, miniature sweet rolls, breads, perhaps a frittata or two or quiche, mimosas and great coffee with cream etc.
5. If you plan your party for, say, between 3 – 7 plan on appetizers: cheese and crackers, vege platter, fruit kabobs, chips and salsa, hot artichoke and crab dip, spinach dip, tortilla rollups, mini desserts.
6. If you plan your party for 7 – 11, think appetizers and wine, beer, or mixed drinks.
Congrats on your new apartment! Best of luck with your party!

Yes you do an “Open House” and you can do it anywhere between 2-4 hours. People will come and go when they want.
They have invites for Open House everywhere.
have fingers type of foods that you can keep out available and I things to drink.
Have fun!!
Most people will bring you a little gift. It is inappropriate to ask or even say no gifts. Just accept what you get. Most importantly have fun!!
Congrats on your new apartment.

Send housewarming invites. The actual time to have one is when you have your place decorated and the way you want it but hey, any excuse for a knees-up.
