What is the best way to serve cut apples for a fruit tray so they don’t brown?

I am throwing a bridal brunch for my sister next week and I am putting together a fruit tray and would like to include apples as a selection. The only thing about serving them is they brown too quickly. I know that lemon juice is often used but how much do you use and do you soak them in the juice or just pour some on them? How long will it last for?

just cut the apples right before you place them in the tray. keep them refridgerated before hand and just squeeze some lemon juice on them.

I usually just sprinkle them with lemon juice. Tends to last for a couple of hours in my experience.

Lemon juice is the best way. Depending on how many apples you cut, just toss them LIGHTLY in the lemon. They should not brown for a few hours (food shouldn’t be left out more than 4 hours anyway for safety).

Don’t soak them in lemon juice. Put the cut pieces in a bowl, pour in the lemon juice and mix the apples in the juice. Let sit no longer then 5 – 7 minutes. They should not brown for about an hour. It also depends on the type of apple.

you need only smear a thin film on the cut surface to prevent browning, cut the apples last of all .I’d say it lasts for a while since you don’t need to repeat applying the juice.

I’ve also heard you can use lemon lime soda to soak them in, so you don’t get such a lemon taste. There’s also a product called Fruit Fresh (I think) that will prevent the browning, but I think it’s just as effective to use water and lemon juice.

I always dunk them in Sprite or 7-Up. Diet works too.

soak them in salt water (just throw a pinch of salt into the water) for a minute or so, that will do the trick!

Mix up about 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt with about 2/3 cup of water. Place the fruit in the water for about a minute and take them out.

If you don’t like that idea, you can sprinkle some lemon juice over them.
