What would you recommend for someone who wants to learn how to play Guitar?
I have always loved music, more specifically rock, which then goes to heavy metal and my favorite band, Dream Evil. I want to one day be able to play great on the guitar but I have no idea where to start. What kind of guitar? Learning books? Lessons? WHAT?

I’m just starting to learn the guitar myself and I’ve found that learning on a nylon string guitar is the easiest to start on. I would also advise since you wish to learn to a certain level and a specific level to find a guitar teacher that has the same iterests in music as you (so someone who also plays rock and heavy metal). This way you’ll be able to play the genre of music that you want.
hope this helps 🙂

I’ve been playing electric guitar for decades. I’d recommend starting on an electric. Some people say that you can’t learn guitar on an electric but it isn’t true. (Heck, I learned on an electric). There are a lot of guitars today that are inexpensive but still well made. The Dean Vendetta and the Dean Evo both sell for about $120 and for the money are very good. Agile guitars and others are also quite good, and I think this is their website: http://www.rondomusic.com
I would recommend getting a cheap amplifier just to reduce costs. (What if you don’t learn to play it?)
I taught myself and I’d also recommend that for you. If you really want to learn, you will learn. Now with the internet you probably could find a lot of information out there.
Well, that’s my bit of advice.

PluckandPlayGuitar has free video based lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing.
It takes you step by step through the basic guitar chords one by one. There’s also lesson on guitar scales, techniques and some easy songs to play.

If your into rock and metal look for something like an Ibanez – They will give you a wider variety of sound. They have those package deals where it comes with the amp and all that stuff which are great.
Then look for a beginners book – they help alot to get you started. I think its really important to learn how to read tabs as well as you’ll be able to learn your favorite songs that way – its not hard at all.
