I have heard that it’s a chore. I could be wrong. It just seems that somewhere in my past I had heard that it was a real chore. I used to work for Sears Service. I didn’t work on washing machines though. I guess that’s where I had heard it. There is like a whole transmission in those washing machines. You might want to get a Service Manual.

I have a Maytag that’s about 10 years old, and it’s not too hard to get the agitator out. First remove the top, which twists off. Then there’s a hex nut inside that holds the agitator in. It took a ratchet and 2 extension bars, but I was able to remove it. If this doesn’t help, Google your model number. You may be able to find a parts diagram. Hope this helps.
