How do I cook elk burgers ?
If you’ve been looking for a substitute for beef burgers, elk meat is the way to go. It is lean, flavorful and extremely healthy, making it a better version of the traditional beef burger that anyone can enjoy. When cooking elk burgers, you’ll need a pound of ground Elk meat, a teaspoon of garlic, one onion, salt, pepper, butter, toppings of your choice like cheese, tomatoes or lettuce and add-ins like mushrooms. You can make elk burgers in a stove or grill.
Preheat your grill or pan before preparing all the ingredients. Once the heat of the pan is enough to sear the burgers, you can combine your ingredients in a bowl. Chop the onion and add a tablespoon of butter to melt in the pan. Add onions in the melted butter and sauté until it become light browned. Add in the garlic, cooking the garlic-onion mixture until soft. Place it to cool before adding the meat.
In a large bowl, place the ground elk and mix the garlic-onion mix. Use your hands in combining the ingredients to ensure it is mixed thoroughly. Divide the meat into four parts, shaping them into even patties. If you’re going to use add-ins, make sure to combine them now. Once the patties are evenly-shaped and sized, you can now place them in the pre-heated pan or grill, leaving them for only 3 to 5 minutes. Once the meat is brown, flip it evenly using a spatula. Make sure to cook both sides evenly until your desired level of brown. You can add cheese and toppings you like, then allow the burger to sit making the juices settle into the meat and cheese melt. You can now serve the burger as you please.
When buying elk meat, make sure you buy from a trusted butcher because the quality of your burgers would depend largely in the quality of your ground meat.
