Bite the bullet and pay for lessons. But if you really dont want to spend cash, look up some youtube vids. a lot of free beginner stuff on there. Dont focus on learning songs right away. Yes songs are what guitars are for, but you need to learn some basic chords and scales first. Then move up to songs, harder scales, and exercises.
If you do indeed become famous I require a 10% spiff of your profit. Other wise have fun and dont get frustrated. You wont be able to play Eruption by Van Halen in a week or two.
Hope this helps 🙂

Go to Barnes and Noble and by a guitar book (Hal Leonard) it teaches you every thing you need to know

From experience, I have been playing guitar for ten years. The best way to start learning how to play chords in the standard positions, and then learning bar chords. For a very beginner, you want to get the G C D and Em chords first, a great song to help you learn chord progression and strumming is ‘last kiss’ by pearl jam. Keep playing it over and over until you can strum those chords seamlessly. There is no magic formula for becoming good at guitar, it takes practice. What you are essentially doing is creating muscle memory – repetition is the only way to achieve this.

I dont know what that best way to learn guitar is, other than practicing a lot like i did. I took lessons for a couple of years too, so you might want to do that becuase it does help, even if you do not see it right away.
As songs to practice, a lot of songs by three days grace are pretty easy. that is what i played when i started out.
Hope that helps

Best way is to take lessons and practice everyday. An easy song is 21 Guns by Greenday. (Just don’t do the solo until your ready)
The intro to smoke of the water is also easy like the other guy said.

PluckandPlayGuitar has free video based lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing.
It takes you step by step through the basic guitar chords one by one. There’s also lessons on guitar scales, techniques and some easy songs to play.
