It’s very easy to learn to play simple songs and have fun on.
It’s very, very difficult to learn to play it well. But it’s still tons easier than, say, the saxophone or the French horn. It takes weeks just to learn to make a note on those things. With a guitar, you’ll be writing songs on it by then.

coming from personal experience, to be blunt, no, at first it is most definitely not “easy.” however, if you have the commitment, the drive, and practice time, then you should pick it up pretty quickly. Your fingers will hurt after the first week or so, but you’ll develop callouses and then they won’t hurt so much.
I’ve been playing guitar for almost 11 years now (started at age 6) and it was not an easy instrument. But my teacher was really good, and now I play it everyday.
Also, how old you are affects your ability to pick up the guitar. If you are under the age of 10, then you’ll have more trouble at first, but you’ll end up a very good player (as opposed to someone who starts at an older age) if you stick with it. If you are 15 or 16 or so, it still will be hard, but you can pick it up relatively quickly.
There are many different kinds of “easy.” But musical instruments require a certain level of commitment, and it will be easier on the player if he or she can practice regularly in peace and quiet.
Good luck!

no it is definatly not easy. it is easier if you really love playing though. Dont bother wasting time hiring sombody to teach you though. there is this great website that teaches you all you need to know about playing. it also teaches you how to tune it. it is http://guitar.about.com/library/blguitarlessonarchive.htm . you can start on electric or acoustic. beware though, your fingers are going to be crying for a while! after playing for a while though, you will get calouses and it wont hurt to play anymore. guitar is very fun and worth the practice. with this website and hours of practice, i learned to play take it easy by the eagles (which i hate but i didnt have anything else to play) in just one week! it is great. good luck and have fun!
