I want to learn to play the accoustic guitar. Where do I start?
I’ve finally decided to make myself learn to play the guitar. I’ve been meaning to do this for ages but never got around to it. I’ve got about 3 books on learning to play the guitar and a dvd or two.. But they all say slightly different things about starting.. Where would you say is a good way to start and where to go from there?
Thanks.

Go to a music school and see if they give free instruction. If not find their bullitenboard, there you will in all likely hood find teachers at decent rates.See if you can afford one class a week , if not do the best you can. Then PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PluckandPlayGuitar has free video based lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing.
It takes you step by step through the basic guitar chords one by one. There’s also lesson on guitar scales, techniques and some easy songs to play.

Step one: Learn how string and tune your guitar
Step two: Learn the major scales(abcdefg, and so on in each key)
Step three: Practice the scales while memorizing the notes.
Step four: Learn the basic major chords and practice them frequently to get used to changing chords in rythm.
It also helps to learn how to read guitar tab, however you should learn how to read sheet music so this doesn’t become a crutch. This is the point of learning where the notes are. Happy playing!
