What is the best way to learn guitar chords?

I’m a piano player trying to learn guitar and I’m trying to figure out the rhyme and reason behind guitar chords. Are there certain chords I should start with that are like the foundation of other chords, or is there some kind of appreciable pattern throughout the chords, or what? What chords should I start with?

Thanks so much.

well probably the E and A chords are most important because once you learn how to barre a fret (hold down an entire fret with your index finger) you use that those patterns to make barre chords.
but to start with, playing open chords are easier for beginners. so chords like E, A, G, C and D are good to practice with.

Go to a music store and pick up a chord book. You won’t get every chord but you’ll get enough to keep busy for a while. Bear in mind that music theory will be the same: i.e. chord progressions etc. will be the same as on piano. The only difference will be in fingering, as the notes are not laid out like on the piano. Good luck.
