What reasons might somebody have to take up smoking again after 2 years off?
My brother has a drinking problem, he gave up smoking 2 years ago and now I’ve noticed he’s back on, he’s taking citalopram for depression.

He may have gotten depressed one day and decided he didn’t care anymore. You should talk to him about it.

Smoking is a very serious addiction. Even when a person quits, the idea of smoking never leaves. In our weak moments, many of us who have quit will pick up a cigarette. Sounds like he needs your support at the moment, so just let the smoking be for now and help him tackle one illness after another.

I’ve quit smoking several times, longest stint was 3 years. Each time I started again was when I’d had a few too many drinks and I was with someone who smoked.
