Unless she has a deficiency in a certain vitamin, a high nutrient content/low calorie diet should be the best source for vitamins. Cigarette smoking does deplete the body of certain vitamins, but if she is quitting then those levels should normalize. I would suggest that she drink plenty of water to further flush out her system as well as fend off urges to overeat. It is possible that a B12 and Vitamin D supplement could be beneficial for energy and mood issues. I might also consider a diet evaluation to eliminate excess sugars, white flour products, and excess carbs which all contribute significantly to weight gain.

I had a doctor recommend that I take B vitamins and Vitamin C when giving up smoking. It might also be an idea to buy a product called rescue remedy to help her cope with the added stress and anxiety that one has been giving up.

Vitamins will not help your mom actually quit smoking. However, vitamins are a good thing to make sure that you are filling in the gaps in your diet. IF she continues to smoke, she should not take beta carotene as it has been shown to possibly damage the lungs of smokers.
