I know a lot of people, including some close friends, who only smoke when they drink. The two go hand in hand at times. I think sometimes people just need professional help and the desire to correct their situation. An AA meeting or support group seems like a good route.
However, more specifically in your situation, I think its important to realize where and why you are drinking. Are you going to bars every night? Are your friends drinkers, and you feel like you have to drink to fit in? How about the stress in your life — do you feel drinking causes this? Your best bet is to analyze why you drink and where/when you drink, and try to work around it. Instead of going out drinking due to a long day at work, try doing an upbeat aerobics or workout exercise. You’re getting healthy and distancing yourself from the things that make you worse off in life.
Best of luck!

take up good habits in replace the bad ones. the time you usually have a drink go for a walk or go to the gym, each time you want to smoke come online and talk to ppl or do something else that is physical to keep yr mind of it. it will take about 2 weeks everyday doing this to change the habits and get use to the new ones.

When you want to drink and smoke came out from your area. See the nature and love it. See the flowers, bees, small creatures who are moving here and there. Think for the peoples who are dying or fighting with death on the hospital bed. Read socio-religious books. Invest your time with disabled.
Decide that you can live without it. You will succeed to leave this habit and you will be able to Live more.

It sounds like the smoking is a secondary concern: I’d focus on the drinking issue, then deal with the smoking (if it is still an issue) once you’ve come to terms with drinking.
The question is if you can control your drinking or not. If you cannot, you are on a one-way elevator going down, and it is up to you when you want to stop it and start climbing the stairs back up.
Here is a simple test–not perfect, but a good indicator. Buy a twelve pack. Drink two beers each evening for the next six days. Drink no more and no less. Can you do it? Did you find it a horrible challenge? If for any reason you did not, never mind what the excuse/rationalization, it’s time to consider getting off that elevator and heading up the stairs. It will only become a longer walk up later, or a downward spiral that it sounds like you are getting a glimpse of now. AA is a good opportunity to learn you are not alone in your struggle. Look them up in the phone book under alcoholic anonymous–there are meetings everywhere, for all types of ages and types of people. good luck

Generally people who drink or smoke, have both the kinds simultaneously. People who have both of the kinds addiction, need to focus on what is more severe and what is secondary or linked to the first. The best line of approach is to see a psychiatrist and a counselor/rehabilitation therapist. General Physicians do not have keep the expertise to anti-addiction therapy. Anti-addiction therapy involves counseling session, anti-drug treatment and post-therapy feedback and follow-ups. If any drug is required, then a medical doctor can only prescribe, it can be antabuse, naltrexone and likewise. Counseling, group therapy and anti-addiction rehabilitation regimen combined with medication can be highly effective. Due to the criticality of the medications, such therapy should be initiated under health care supervision only.
