Acoustic would be your best bet. Electric isnt hard to learn but it sounds terrible if your’e just learning, where as acoustic is alright. Once you get acoustic down, then you go to electric.

From someone who has played around with both, Acoustic is the best place to start and then learn electric.. because to start on electric and try to learn acoustic is much harder. Check with your local YMCA or community activities… most of these organizations have beginner classes in guitar.

there both fun because electric is loud and it can probaly vibrate through the whole house and acoustic you can have many different tunes i would like to have them both but if i had to chose one i would chose uhhhhhhhhhhhh i think i would have to chose electric once you learn electric the acoustic will be easier trust me i know how to play them both and the harder one to learn is the electric and then the acoustic. It will be easier to learn. The eletric guitar is harder to learn i will tell you that but you will get the hang of
Well good luck on what ever one you chose

I would say acoustic. First off, if you’re trying to stay under $200, then electric is pretty much out of the question. Also, if you start out acoustic, you will be surprised by how much more comfortable the neck is on an electric. While you may not be able to rock out right away, you can still figure stuff out and sound reasonably cool :). You’ll also find that electrics are harder to shop for cause there’s so much more stuff to worry about (brands, amp styles, pickups, cords, etc.)

I would highly recommend that you start with acoustic. It’s not as flashy, but it will force you to focus on the most important aspects of the instrument. Electric guitar is fantastic, but it comes with a great deal of distractions: amplification, effects, tremelo bar, etc.
You can get a pretty good acoustic guitar for $200 (US), certainly good enough to meet the needs of a beginner. Try Mitchell or Yamaha. I have recently heard pretty good things about Mitchell. Here is a link to get you started:
