The best way to learn is to practice. I don’t think you can become a pro as fast as you’d like. It takes hard work. Just learn the chords, and play songs with them in it. Nothing else you can do to make you learn faster. Oh, wait, get private lessons. That would help a lot.

Get a teacher or an instructional video and practice, practice, practice. There is no easy way out. It takes hard work and dedication to be good at anything.

well, to be (or at least look) like a “pro” guitarist, you don’t have to be extremely good at guitar…i would suggest starting to learn basic chords like C, G, E, F, etc…once you have these down (and it will take a little while as your fingers adjust to the different positions) i would try going to http://www.ultimate-guitar.com and finding some of your favorite songs…get the ones in the “chord” format and try to play them from what you know…from there, you can move to tabs, which is what most rock songs are written with…hope this helps

also, there are ( i believe) links to sites that show different chords, etc at ultimate-guitar.com

Try introducing yourself at local bars if your old enough to the local bands and try one on one with one that has nothing better to do. Maybe they can give you hints, and let you practice with them. I love guitarist. My stepdad use to play at home when i was growing up. Try just for fun the video games that allow you to simulate actual songs. Maybe it can give you a different insight that will open your brain to the art.

There is no such thing as easy. There is only half-assing. I learned by getting a personal instructor, seeing him only once a week. In that time I would memmorize the sound of the chord or not, the finger placement, and the name of that. I would practice moving my fingers around and deal with the pain as my fingers callased (sp?). So in short, PRACTICE!!!!!

There is no quick way to learn guitar…unless you have perfect pitch or are a genius !!!!!! It’s taken my years to perfect my playing….it’s just like reading you don’t learn how overnight. Here are some sites that I think are very good. Some have some free lessons, or chord charts, or free electronic tuners…but most want you to buy their on line lessons, DVDs, Videos, Cd’s, or books. So check them out and see what one appeals to you :

It seems most beginner guitar players want to apply learning the techniques of sound theory and guitar work with pouring a cup of instant coffee. To learn anything of substance–whether it’s being a tennis player, a golfer, soccer pro, and musician, it takes loads of patience and practice. Seldom are there shortcuts unless the player is a downright genius to begin with.

Playing quick and playing well do not go together. If you want to play well, practice as much as possible and you’ll get a gig. If you want to play quickly you’ll play poorly and by yourself or with others of a lower level.
